Waterhouse & Bowes was a business venture formed by George B. Waterhouse and Michael Bowes, both of Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to the Civil War, the company installed gas works in several North Carolina towns, including Raleigh, Charlotte, and Salisbury. The firm also worked with architect William Percival on projects in North Carolina, including the New West and New East buildings on the University of North Carolina campus. During the Civil War, Waterhouse, Bowes & Company manufactured gunpowder for the Confederacy at the Raleigh Powder Mills.
